Saint Paul

St. Paul’s Bay, Lindos, Greece

I’ll never forget the moment I discovered this tiny, stunning bay on the Mediterranean. Walking through the village, past the village, taking the road down (also by foot) to the sea. The lush foliage and flowers parting to a wondrous rocky nook of perfect still waters -  cool, salty and sparkling. My heart blossomed. The waters here are a mix of translucent pale green and varying shades of vibrant turquoise. The opening of the bay leads to a blue I have yet to see anywhere else. This part of the Mediterranean is a very saturated electric cobalt blue. It doesn’t even look real. I have spent numerous days here in this little bay since that first day. Floating (literally) in the salty sea, swimming, looking at the speckled rocks and purple urchins, or lying on a bed draped in linen, reading, listening to the sounds of quaint beach life, eating the freshest food and soaking up the purest of rays.

Named after St. Paul, a figure prolific in the Medieval Crusades led by St. John in the 16th century, I think about the rich history of this village, this island, in the pantheon of life. So much history here and, so much natural phenomenon. The rock formations, the pine trees, the nearby 2000 year old Acropolis, the best agriculture and seafood, and an undeniably palpable and creative spirit amongst the villagers. It’s an idyllic place for romantics, intellects, adventurers and dreamers…
